Switched On
A QUICK ask around the office showed how little we actually know about computers. It seems that most of our computing knowledge is based on gaming; there’s a couple of Napoleons (Total War) among us, at least three Sam Fishers (Splinter Cell) and a few retired Lara Crofts. We’ve also got the number of a local computer guy for when our machines go wrong so we were more than fired up to find out as much as possible about it when we went to Plymouth Uni to make a promotional video for its School of Computing and Mathematics.
We filmed with the Head of the School Professor Steven Furnell, who gave us the low down on the school, academic staff, research projects and what students can expect to gain from their degrees, while Dan Livingstone, course leader for BSc Computing & Games Development, gave us a quick tour of the School’s facilities (including the Centre for Security Communications And Network research, CSCAN) and talked us through some of the students’ projects. Jessica, a recent graduate of BSc Hons Computing, also told us what it’s like being a student there.
